Fresh, seasonal, locally sourced vegetarian and vegan Indian dishes
Tara Rasoi specialises in authentic vegetarian Indian street food and farmhouse cooking - think parathas fresh off a cast iron griddle, or squash and sweet potato cakes smothered in organic or vegan yoghurt with homemade date-tamarind and chilli-mint sauces. We make vegetarian and vegan thalis, as well as street food specials, drawn from Mahesh’s extensive travels in the Indian subcontinent allowing customers to experience unique authentic Indian flavours and dishes they won’t have tried anywhere else.
We work with local farmers to source the freshest seasonal vegetables for our curries, and use wholewheat and organic ingredients to create food which makes you feel good.
As well as our regular street food markets and festivals, we cater events and have special menu options for yoga and meditation retreats.
Our ethos
Our offering
Streetfood markets
We work a variety of southwest street food markets, serving unusual dishes you won’t have tried before — like smashed samosa or squash and sweet potato cakes, smothered in organic or vegan yoghurt and topped with homemade chili-mint and tamarind-date chutneys.
Catering
We cater a variety of private events in and around Bath, cooking for 15-130 people. Get in touch to discuss your event and we will work together to devise a suitable menu priced to suit the gathering.
Festivals
We love festivals and making genuine food to make you feel good. We work with an expert team of experienced event caterers. We are fully certified, insured and can offer a creative menu priced to suit the event.
Our story
Central to our cooking is sharing the authentic taste of healthy, homecooked north Indian food. We treat seasonable vegetables with a carefully mixed selection of spices to create an endless variety of exciting vegetarian flavours. Everything is cooked fresh, including homemade chapattis and parathas (flatbreads), toasted on a hot iron skillet. The thali menu combines chickpeas or daal with seasonally available vegetables changing on a weekly basis.
Chef Mahesh creates unique and varied vegetarian dishes drawn from his childhood in a north Indian farmhouse where homegrown food was made into meals for huge family gatherings, as well as his experience as a theatre practitioner travelling the subcontinent which has influenced his knowledge of street food. He delights in throwing his creativity into making sustainable ayurvedically influenced food with an ethics of harmony - with other creatures, our environments, and our own hearts and souls. The result is energising and satisfying meals combining total nutrition with exciting flavour.
